Gold is a chemical element. Its symbol is Au (from the Latin aurum, 'bright dawn'). Gold is a durable metal of natural origin and with a typical yellow color. It has resistance to rust, surface discoloration and corrosion. Being a very resistant metal, it is also the most malleable precious metal.
100% pure gold is very soft for daily use, therefore it is necessary to alloy it with other metals, such as silver, copper, nickel and zinc, to achieve greater strength and durability of the jewel. The carat, represented by a number followed by the letter "k", indicates the purity or quantity of gold contained in a jewel in an alloy. The numerical base of the karat is 24, so that the 24-k gold is 100% gold.
Our jewelry is made with 18k and 14k gold. 18k gold is made up of 75% gold and should be alloyed with other metals so that it can withstand daily use. The 14k gold is composed of 58.3% gold and 41.7% other metals.
The color depends on 2 factors: The first is the types of alloys and the second is the percentage of each metal in the alloy
